Cranberry Juice Ingredients



Cranberry juice is available in the United States, or as a raw juice or cocktail mixes. Although raw cranberry juice is very bitter, it has several advantages conducive to a healthy lifestyle. Nevertheless, other versions are available which also contain sugar or artificial sweeteners which may not have such a positive influence on health.
 

Cranberry

Cranberries are the main constituents of all cranberry juice, although some commercial varieties will benefit from cranberry juice concentrate. The concentrate contains a lot of water removed from the juice, and then water is added in order to supplement and the diluted solution. During this process, which typically requires the use of heat, many beneficial nutrients present in cranberry and other fruits, denatured and becomes nutritionally bankrupt. Raw, unsweetened cranberry juice is the most beneficial, as it will have all the necessary vitamins and nutrients intact.
 

Sugar

Perhaps the most harmful substance in cranberry juice, whether raw or processed sugar is added. According to the American Heart Association, women should consume no more than 100 calories per day from sugar, no more than men, 150 8-oz. serving of cranberry juice contains 110 calories usually with 26 grams of sugar. Cranberry juice cocktail may contain upwards of 32 grams of sugar per 8 oz. serving. Crude unsweetened cranberry juice may be acidic but contains only about 90 calories per 8 ounces and only 12 grams of sugar. If you can't take the bitterness, adding a natural sweetener like a foal can help soothe your taste buds.
 

Health Benefits

One of the most important and well-known health benefits of raw unsweetened cranberry juice is its ability to prevent urinary tract infections and urinary encourage respiratory health. Compounds present in cranberry juice help to prevent the adhesion of bacteria to the bladder wall, which helps to fight infection. Raw, unsweetened cranberry juice is also rich in phytochemicals that prevent free radicals that can lead to cancer and cardiovascular, although further research is needed.
 

Bottom Line

Sugar laden cranberry juice concentrate and juice blends are not healthy drinks. Instead of eating raw, unsweetened cranberry juice to raise its health benefits. Nadine Taylor, author of "Natural Menopause Remedies," recommends drinking eight ounces of cranberry juice a day as part of a balanced diet.
